This is the million dollar question! Sometimes those stubborn fatty areas never go away- no matter how many sit ups you do or how many diets you try. It’s not you! As hard as it is to accept, the distribution of your fat throughout your body is determined early in life by factors such as genetics, gender, physical activity level, and calorie intake.
For example, if your body is genetically made to hold more fat cells in your belly and abdomen, you’ll likely have more fat in these areas for your entire life. Even the most intense diet and exercise routines have little effect on it. You might be able to shrink the fat cells, but they’ll still be present in these problem areas, retaining the pudgy or flabby shape you see outwardly. Genetics are responsible for the most exercise-resistant parts of your frame.
Sigh, we feel the same way- discouraged! But that is why Simply Sculpt is in existence! We can REMOVE those fat cells from the areas our bodies hold on to! If you’re interested, keep reading!
Fun Fact: Your body’s total number of fat cells stays the same for life, and while diet and exercise can increase or decrease their size, you cannot completely lose fat cells once they’re created (unless you remove them).
Subcutaneous Fat vs. Visceral Fat
There are two different types of fat cells: subcutaneous and visceral. Subcutaneous fat is the visible, pinchable fat located directly under your skin (mom pouch, anyone?!) while visceral fat cells are stored within your abdominal cavity, surrounding your vital organs. It is often referred to as “active fat” because it can actively increase your risk of serious weight-related medical problems, but it is very responsive to diet and exercise. Subcutaneous fat is the fat that is resistant to diet and exercise and affected more by genetics. That fat is the fat we can help with!
Pro Tip: Losing visceral fat is good for your health and longevity, but losing the stubborn subcutaneous fat is what will help you slim down and fit into smaller clothes.
What Causes Subcutaneous Fat?
Everyone has some amount of subcutaneous fat in their body, but genetics, physical activity, and eating habits determine how much. Subcutaneous fat is primarily caused by eating more calories than you burn, getting limited aerobic exercise, and having low muscle mass.
This is the stuff we learned back in sixth grade, but probably never paid attention to until we reached adulthood when our metabolisms slowed way down and we started noticing more of this stuff being stuck to our bodies!
Subcutaneous fat is one of the main ways your body stores energy—in order to lose some fat, you must burn that energy in the form of calories. Exercise routines that increase your heart rate, like high-cardio fitness classes, interval training, and aerobics, are best for burning calories and reducing the size of your subcutaneous fat cells, but unfortunately, some areas will always be genetically resistant to exercise and diet.
Don’t let this discourage you from trying to achieve the body you’ve always wanted! There are ways around our DNA! What are we talking about? Keep reading…
